Upward Soccer at Holston Creek Baptist Church is moving to the spring. This is the first time Holston Creek has offered Upward Soccer in the spring in its eighteen year history. For seventeen soccer seasons the church has had their soccer program in the fall. The reason for the move to the spring has to do with Covid-19. Pastor Parker who started the soccer program at Holston Creek in 2003 said, “When it came time to have soccer this past fall I was afraid that the government might order another shut down. Now that we have seemingly passed the peak of Covid-19 and a vaccination is available I feel that it is time to return to having the soccer program.”
Over the last 18 years many children have played soccer at Holston Creek. Fall soccer generally has 175- 220 children involved each year. Pastor Parker hopes that having the soccer program in the spring will reach that many children if not more. He said that he has already noticed that a good percent of the children that have already registered for soccer this spring have never played soccer at Holston Creek and many are completely new to the sport. He is excited about the opportunities that having Upward Soccer this spring will bring to the area and to the church. He proudly says that many children that have come through the program over the years have went on to play soccer at middle school and high school. He said, “I want the children to love the game but I want them to love Jesus even more.”
If you want your children to be involved in a Christian soccer program then sign them up to play Upward Soccer this spring at Holston Creek. Registration is going on now. There are two Upward Soccer evaluation days coming up, Saturday, February 20, and Saturday, February 27. The times are from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM. If you want to save $10.00 on the registration you should bring your child to the soccer evaluation on February 20. Upward Soccer is for children 4 years old through the sixth grade. For questions about Upward Soccer you can call the church office at 864-472-2663.
The soccer program offers, Christian coaches, quality uniforms, a one hour practice each week, and Saturday games that have a family atmosphere. Practices begin the week of March 29, and the first game will be April 10.
